Women in Tech: Coding Bootcamp Scholarships for Veterans & Spouses

By Code Platoon
TLDR: From pioneers like Read Admiral Grace Hopper to today’s software engineers, women continue to break barriers in tech despite being underrepresented. If you're a woman Veteran or military spouse looking to start a tech career, Code Platoon’s Women in Tech scholarship can help make it possible.
Preparing for a new career field is exciting. However, choosing the right training program can be daunting, and the cost is often significant. As a mission-driven nonprofit, Code Platoon helps Veterans and military families by offering scholarships that significantly reduce the cost of our programs.
One of our most awarded scholarships is the Women in Tech scholarship, created to support women Veterans, Servicemembers, and military dependents who want to attend a coding bootcamp to break into the tech workforce.
Breaking Barriers and Honoring a Legacy
The tech industry offers in-demand and high-paying careers, yet women—especially Veterans and military spouses—are underrepresented in technical roles. Although women make up nearly half of the U.S. workforce, they hold fewer than one in four technical jobs at major companies.
For many, the challenge isn’t capability but access to training, mentorship, and career pathways. Transitioning from the military or balancing family commitments can create extra hurdles, but women in the military community can thrive in tech with the right support.
That’s one reason we created our Women in Tech scholarship, named in honor of Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, a programming pioneer who published the first paper on compilers for programming languages. This scholarship helps empower women Veterans and military family members to continue Hopper’s legacy of innovation.
When you join Code Platoon, you’re not just enrolling in a program—you’re becoming part of a community built to support you every step of the way.
A Scholarship Success Story
Christina Angeline, a Marine Corps Veteran and Code Platoon graduate, knows firsthand how life-changing this scholarship can be. She was part of India Platoon, our ninth cohort, and moved to Chicago to attend the Full-stack Software Engineering Bootcamp in person. For Christina, the scholarship wasn’t just financial support but an opportunity to focus on learning to code.
“Getting the Women in Tech scholarship meant a lot,” Christina said. “I'm grateful that Code Platoon has such a passion for helping women Veterans like me and their families.”
Christina learned Python and JavaScript programming languages and developed a new approach to problem-solving. She added that her coding bootcamp stood out from other tech training programs because it’s tailored exclusively to the unique needs of the military community.
“The instructors understand the military to tech transition and point you in the right direction,” she said.
Only 25 days after Christina graduated, she landed a full-time Associate Engineer role at Lextegrity.
Going to Code Platoon is one of the best decisions I’ve made. I'm doing what I love, and that's coding.
